The Contributions of Cecilia Reyes to the Poker Industry

If the name Cecilia Reyes does not ring a bell, you probably know her as Cecilia Reyes Mortensen. She was once married to poker professional Juan Carlos Mortensen and divorced in 2006. But for sure, even without the surname Mortensen, you are familiar of the name Cecilia Reyes because she used such name most of the time even when she was not yet divorced.

Born in Amazonas, Ecuador on June 2, 1972, Cecilia Reyes relocated to Spain at such an early age with her family. In college, she held several jobs so she could finish a degree in Dramatic Arts. A couple of months before she completed her degree, she learned how to play poker through Mortensen. She eventually became passionate about the game, watching poker games on television for hours and hours each day. She was fond of watching and observing the playing techniques of famous poker professionals.

Cecilia Reyes was already married to Mortensen when the couple decided to move to the United States in 1998 so he could further pursue a career in poker. While Mortensen exerted his effort to become a full-fledged serious poker professional, Cecilia Reyes was also playing on a part-time basis. Eventually, she turned into a full-fledged female poker professional, playing not only in live tournaments but on the Internet as well.

Cecilia Reyes had several money finishes in 2002 from her participation in the San Diego Super Bowl of Poker, the 33rd Annual World Series of Poker, and the Californian State Poker Championship.

On January 27, 2003, this female poker professional won a Limit Hold'em event at the Jack Binion World Poker Open of the World Poker Tour and the first prize money of US$58,036.

Another noteworthy feat of Cecilia Reyes happened on June 26, 2005 when she won a No Limit Hold'em event for the ladies at the 36th Annual World Series of Poker. She was the fourth placer, receiving US$38,220. She also became the three- hundred-seventy-fourth placer at the 37th Annual World Seris of Poker main event. She competed against eight thousand seven hundred seventy three poker players and her cash prize was US$34,636.

Cecilia Reyes says that some of the poker professionals that she respects are Daniel Negreanu, Phil Ivey, and Alan Cunningham.

So what does this female poker professional do when she is not playing poker? She just loves to read books about technology, psychology, and sciences. She is also fond of talking to her friends, skiing, working out, and traveling.
